Mary Ose and John Adams started their adventure walking across England at about 6pm on Tuesday, May 3, 2011. We began by walking from town to the north end of the sea wall at St. Bees in Cumbria, where we dipped our toes into the Irish Sea. St. Bees is near the western edge of England’s Lake District, a few hours north of Manchester. At 5pm on Wednesday, May 18th, we reached our destination, Robin Hood’s Bay, near the eastern edge of England’s North York Moors National Park. Here we dipped our toes into the North Sea and were greeted at the nearby establishment, Wainwright’s Pub, by a number of friends made along the way.
